Compliance
Photo ID for selling — why we need it.
UK law (Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013) requires registered buyers like ChipFlip to verify every individual seller. One-time check on your first sale, then on file.
What you need to send
Two things, both as photos. A phone snap is fine.

Common questions
My ID address is different from my proof-of-address — is that a problem?
No — register the address on your proof-of-address as your seller address. The two documents don't need to match each other; both must just be valid and current.
I don't have a passport or driving licence.
A national ID card or biometric residence permit works too. If you have none of those, email us and we'll suggest alternatives accepted under the SMD Act.
Why does an online utility bill count?
A printed PDF of an online bill is fine — it just needs to show your name, address and a date in the last 3 months. Phone bills, broadband bills, and bank statements all count.
How do I send the photos?
Reply to your quote email and attach both. Or upload via the secure link we send when you accept a quote.
Do I have to do this every time?
No. After your first verified sale, your details stay on file and you can sell again with no extra paperwork — just confirm by email.
