How we grade NVMe drives on receipt

A

Grade A — 100% SMART health

Drive reports 100% SMART drive health on receipt — no reallocated sectors, no end-of-life flags, no media-wear warnings. Pays at the listed price above.

B

Grade B — 80–99% health

SMART reports 80–99% drive health. We pay pro-rata: 90% drive pays 90% of list, 85% drive pays 85%, etc.

C

Grade C — untested

Pulled from working system but we couldn't SMART-check (no compatible adapter, etc). Pays 60–80% as deposit, balance after later test.

X

Grade X — <80% / faulty

Below 80% drive health, dead controller, won't enumerate. We don't pay for these — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.

How to sell your NVMe in three steps

1

Build your quote

Use the live quote tool — tap + on each capacity tier. £30 minimum order; pair multiple drives or other components to reach it.

2

Wipe (optional) and post

If you want to wipe yourself first, fine — we re-wipe regardless on receipt. M.2 NVMe in anti-static sleeve or bubble wrap; 2.5" SSDs can stack with bubble wrap between. Padded box, post via any UK carrier.

3

Get paid

We securely wipe (multi-pass cryptographic erase), SMART-check, and email a per-line grading report (typically 1–2 business days). Once you accept, payment by Faster Payments — UK Faster Payments usually clear in your bank within an hour or two of being sent.

What we don't buy

  • Drives below 128GB — limited secondary market
  • Mechanical hard drives (HDDs) — different category; we'll route them through our WEEE channel at no charge if sent in a mixed batch
  • Drives with cracked PCBs, broken connectors, or burn marks — Grade X, no value
  • Drives that fail to enumerate or report SMART data — Grade X
  • Drives below 80% SMART health — Grade X (we recycle these free under WEEE rather than pay for them)

Data handling on incoming drives

Every NVMe drive we receive goes through a multi-pass cryptographic erase across the full address space on receipt — before any bench-test, before any resale prep. Drives that fail to wipe are physically destroyed; we don't attempt data recovery on any drive for any reason.

If you'd prefer to wipe yourself first using your own toolset, that's fine — tell us in advance and we'll skip our wipe step. Standard practice for recurring sellers is to re-wipe regardless as a belt-and-braces. Per-batch wipe record (serials + completion timestamps) provided with your grading report; useful for end-client ITAD reporting if you're processing on someone else's behalf. More on data handling →

Common questions about selling NVMe drives

Consumer vs enterprise drives — same price?
Yes, per-capacity rate applies. A consumer 2TB Samsung 980 Pro and an enterprise 2TB Intel D7-P5510 both pay the per-capacity rate at Grade A. Wear and condition matter, brand doesn't.
How does drive health affect price?
Grade A = 100% SMART health, full price. Grade B = 80–99% health, pro-rata pay (a 90% drive pays 90% of Grade A). Below 80% we don't pay — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.
M.2 vs U.2 form factor — same price?
Yes. Per-capacity. The connector type doesn't change resale value materially.
OEM pulls (without box / with stickers)?
Welcome — pricing same as retail. Stickers don't affect Grade A unless adhesive residue damages the label.
What about drives still in caddies/sleds?
Pull them out before posting — caddies aren't part of the buyback, and shipping with the caddy attached risks bent connectors. Keep your caddies for whatever you're spec'ing next.
How do you handle drive serials in the report?
Per-line grading report shows serial number, capacity, SMART health %, and payable amount. Useful for inventory matching on your end.
