How we grade 4TB drives on receipt

Grade A — 100% SMART health

Drive reports 100% SMART drive health on receipt — no reallocated sectors, no end-of-life flags, no media-wear warnings. Pays at the listed price above.

Grade B — 80–99% health

SMART reports 80–99% drive health. We pay pro-rata: 90% drive pays 90% of list, 85% drive pays 85%, etc.

Grade C — untested

Pulled from working system but we couldn't SMART-check (no compatible adapter, etc). Pays 60–80% as deposit, balance after later test.

Grade X — <80% / faulty

Below 80% drive health, dead controller, won't enumerate. We don't pay for these — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.

How to sell your 4TB drive

Wipe (optional) and post

If you want to wipe yourself first, fine — we re-wipe regardless on receipt. M.2 NVMe in anti-static sleeve or bubble wrap; 2.5" SSDs can stack with bubble wrap between. Padded box, post via any UK carrier.

Get paid

We securely wipe (multi-pass cryptographic erase), SMART-check, and email a per-line grading report (typically 1–2 business days). Once you accept, payment by Faster Payments — UK Faster Payments usually clear in your bank within an hour or two of being sent.

Consumer M.2 NVMe (PCIe Gen 4): WD Black SN850X 4TB, Samsung 990 Pro 4TB, Crucial T700 / T705 4TB, Kingston KC3000 4TB, Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus, Corsair MP700 series. All paid at the per-capacity rate.

Consumer M.2 NVMe (PCIe Gen 3, older): Samsung 970 EVO Plus 4TB (rare), Sabrent Rocket Q 4TB. Lower secondary demand than Gen 4 but still pay the per-capacity rate at Grade A.

Enterprise U.2 / E1.S: Intel D7-P5510 / D5-P5316, Samsung PM1733 (3.84TB form factor), Kioxia CD7. Per-capacity rate applies.

Common questions about selling 4TB drives

How important is the SMART wear-leveling count on a 4TB drive?

Critical. 4TB drives with 60–70% remaining endurance grade as B (pro-rata pay). Drives below 80% SMART health grade as X — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.

What about mixed Gen 3 vs Gen 4 4TB drives?

Same per-capacity rate. The per-MB transfer-speed advantage of Gen 4 doesn't translate cleanly into the buyback rate.

I have a 3.84TB enterprise drive — does it count as 4TB?

Enterprise drives commonly use base-10 capacity labelling (3.84TB ≈ 4TB-class). Yes, paid at the £56 tier.

Will the drive be securely wiped before any test?

Yes — multi-pass cryptographic erase across the full address space on receipt, before our SMART check or any resale prep. Per-batch wipe record provided.

What if my drive enumerates but won't pass full health check?

If it's 80–99% SMART health it's Grade B (pro-rata). If it fails to enumerate or reports below 80% it's Grade X — we'll route to recycling at no charge or return at our cost, your call.
