No test rig needed

We test everything on receipt — at no cost to you

Plenty of sellers don't have a way to bench-test what they're sending us. That's fine. We test every component on arrival at no extra charge — boots, pin check, thermal check at full load for CPUs; memtest passes for RAM; SMART + read-back for drives. You only pay UK postage to us.

If anything fails

Returned at our cost

Anything that fails testing we either return to you at our expense, or route via our WEEE channel — your call. You're never out of pocket for sending us components that turn out not to work.

1 · Get a quote

Use our live prices page to build a quote yourself, or email a list and we'll quote within working hours, Mon–Fri.

Quotes are valid for 7 days. Lock yours in by accepting it via the link in your confirmation email — the price is fixed regardless of market movement after that.

2 · Photo ID

One-time check on your first sale; details kept on file for repeat sales.

What we need

Photo ID

Passport, photocard driving licence, biometric residence permit, or national ID card. Phone snap is fine.

What we need

Proof of address

Utility bill, bank or credit card statement, council tax letter, or HMRC letter — dated within the last 3 months.

UK law (Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013) requires us to verify the seller of any used IT components. More on photo ID and what counts →

3 · How to pack

Bad packing is the most common reason a Grade A quote drops to Grade B on receipt.

CPUs

Original box if you have it (the clamshell does the work). Otherwise: antistatic foam or bag, then bubble wrap, then a small box.

RAM

Bubble-wrap each stick individually. Never two sticks loose in a bag — they touch and pins bend.

SSDs / NVMe

Antistatic bag, then 2 layers of bubble wrap, then a padded envelope inside a small box.

4 · Postage at your cost

You arrange and pay for postage to our address (we email it after you lock your quote). Use any UK carrier — Royal Mail Tracked for small lots, DPD or Evri for larger ones.

Tracking the parcel is worth doing — replies move faster once we can see it's on the way. Once we have it, you'll get a confirmation of receipt within the day.

5 · We test on receipt

Every component is bench-tested on receipt — boots, pin check, thermal check at full load. We email you a per-line grading report (typically 1–2 business days; faster on small batches, longer on 500+ component bulk consignments).

If everything's Grade A, you get the quoted price. If something's Grade B (cosmetic flaws), C (untested but pulled from a working system), or X (faulty), we explain the adjustment and ask you to confirm before payment goes out.

6 · You get paid

Once you accept the grading report, payment goes by Faster Payments — typically same business day on small batches, 1–2 business days on 500+ component bulk runs. UK Faster Payments usually clear in your bank within an hour or two of being sent.

Common questions about the process

What if my quote expires before I post?
No drama — request a fresh quote and we'll re-issue at the current listed rates. If the market hasn't moved, the price is usually the same. The 7-day lock is so you're not exposed to drops; if rates have risen in your favour, the new quote reflects that.
What happens if photo ID verification fails?
We'll email you with what's missing or unclear (e.g. expired licence, address mismatch, blurry photo) and ask for a re-take. We don't proceed with payment until ID is verified — UK law (Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013) requires it. Common ID issues →
Can I send everything in one go, or split across multiple postings?
Either works. Single batch is faster for everyone. If you split, just reference the same quote ID on each parcel — we'll consolidate on our end and issue one grading report once everything's arrived.
What if my courier loses the box?
That's between you and the carrier — claim against their tracked-postage protection (Royal Mail Tracked, DPD, and Evri all offer this). We can't pay out for components we never received. This is why we recommend a tracked service: cheap insurance against the rare lost parcel.
How do I track progress once you've received the box?
You'll get a "we have your batch" email on the day of receipt with the components we logged in. Then a per-line grading report once testing is done — that's the email you reply to, accepting the grades. Payment confirmation lands in your inbox once the Faster Payment is sent.
Do I need to wipe SSDs before sending?
No — we securely wipe every drive on receipt before any test or resale. You're welcome to wipe yourself first if it helps your peace of mind, but it doesn't change anything our end. More on data wiping →
