How we grade Intel i9 chips on receipt

A

Grade A — tested working

Boots cleanly on our test bench, no bent pins, no thermal damage, no missing IHS or capacitors. Pays at the listed price above.

B

Grade B — cosmetic flaws

Boots fine but has minor cosmetic issues — sticker residue, scratches, slight discolouration. Pays 80–90% of Grade A.

C

Grade C — untested

Pulled from a working system but we couldn't bench-test (no compatible board, etc). Pays 60–80% as deposit, balance after later test.

X

Grade X — won't boot

Cracked die, bent pins beyond recovery, burnt or thermally damaged. We don't pay for these — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.

How to sell your i9 in three steps

Build your quote

Use the live quote tool — tap + on your specific model. £30 minimum order; pair with another chip or any other component if a single i9 doesn't reach it.

Pack and post

Postal address arrives by email after you lock the quote. Wrap each chip individually (keep pin-grids protected), padded envelope or small box, post via any UK carrier — Royal Mail Tracked is fine.

Get paid

We bench-test on receipt and email a per-line grading report (typically 1–2 business days). Once you accept, payment goes out by Faster Payments — UK Faster Payments usually clear in your bank within an hour or two of being sent.

What we don't buy

Mobile i9 chips (BGA-soldered HX or H series) — desktop LGA i9s only
Pre-9th gen i9s — the 9th gen was the first mainstream i9 desktop launch, so 9th onward only
Engineering samples and ES/QS — Intel licensing terms make these awkward to resell
Delidded chips with damaged IHS or visible solder loss — usually Grade B at best, sometimes X
Cracked-die or burnt IHS — Grade X, no per-part value

Common questions about selling Intel i9s

KS vs K vs KF vs F — same price?

Within the same generation, K, KF, and F variants pay the same in our buyback flow. KS (binned high-end) usually pays a small premium — exact spread shown in the quote tool.

What about delidded i9s?

Yes, but watch the resale grade. Delidded chips with intact IHS and clean solder pay Grade A. Visible solder loss or scuffs on the silicon die drop to Grade B. Cracked die from delidding gone wrong = Grade X.

Do you buy i9 X-series workstation chips (i9-7900X, 9900X, 10980XE)?

Yes — these are LGA 2066 platform chips. Pricing is custom because the secondary market for X-series is thin; WhatsApp +44 7908 749694 with the model and we'll quote within working hours.

Overclocked i9 — does that hurt the price?

Not directly. Only whether it boots cleanly under our test rig at stock settings. Overclock-induced thermal damage is what drops the grade.

Is my 14900K worth more if I have the original box and cooler?

Cooler maybe (we'll quote separately if you want to sell that). Box has no resale value to us — keep it.

Thermal paste on the IHS?

Send as-is. We clean on receipt — don't scrape it yourself, scratching the IHS drops to Grade B (£10+ less per chip on a 14900K).
