How we grade Intel i5 chips on receipt

Grade A — tested working

Boots cleanly on our test bench, no bent pins, no thermal damage, no missing IHS or capacitors. Pays at the listed price above.

Grade B — cosmetic flaws

Boots fine but has minor cosmetic issues — sticker residue, scratches, slight discolouration. Pays 80–90% of Grade A.

Grade C — untested

Pulled from a working system but we couldn't bench-test (no compatible board, etc). Pays 60–80% as deposit, balance after later test.

Grade X — won't boot

Cracked die, bent pins beyond recovery, burnt or thermally damaged. We don't pay for these — returned at our cost or routed through our WEEE channel, your call.

How to sell your i5 in three steps

Build your quote

Use the live quote tool — tap + on your specific model. £30 minimum order; pair with another chip or any other component if a single i5 doesn't reach it.

Pack and post

Postal address arrives by email after you lock the quote. Wrap each chip individually (keep pin-grids protected), padded envelope or small box, post via any UK carrier — Royal Mail Tracked is fine.

Get paid

We bench-test on receipt and email a per-line grading report (typically 1–2 business days). Once you accept, payment goes out by Faster Payments — UK Faster Payments usually clear in your bank within an hour or two of being sent.

Mobile i5 chips (BGA-soldered laptop/NUC CPUs) — desktop LGA i5s only
Pre-6th gen i5s (i5-5xxx, 4xxx and earlier) — limited secondary demand; we'll route them through our WEEE channel at no charge if sent in a mixed batch
Engineering samples and ES/QS — Intel licensing terms make these awkward to resell
Cracked-die or burnt IHS — Grade X, no per-part value

Common questions about selling Intel i5s

i5 is my chip — does it clear the £30 minimum?

A single 14600K does. Older i5s on their own usually don't. Pair with another chip, RAM, or any other component to reach £30. The quote tool shows the running total as you add items.

K vs non-K vs F vs T — same price?

Within the same generation, K and base versions pay the same; F (no iGPU) pays the same since silicon is identical; T-series (35W low-power) pays slightly less due to lower secondary demand.

I have 20+ i5s from a refurb shop — better price?

What about i5 with thermal paste residue?

Send as-is. We clean on receipt. Don't scrape — scratched IHS drops chip to Grade B.

Do older i5s really hold any value?

Yes — even an i5-6600K pays £5 Grade A. The market for budget DIY upgrades and office refurbishment is huge, and these chips power countless secondary-market builds.
